Washington Park Disc Golf Course

Founded in 1987, Washington Park is one of Central Indiana’s oldest disc golf courses. It was also one of the courses used during the 1992 PDGA Amateur World Championships. With all that history the course has long been one of the most played courses in the Indianapolis area. The course has seen many changes over the years and for the most part has kept up with all the changes in disc technology. While the bones of the course have always been solid, time and the elements had taken their toll. A few years back the Indy Disc Golf Club decided it was time to give Washington Park a minor renovation. The timing coincided with me getting more involved in the disc golf community. While not wanting to overstep my bounds as a newer member of the club, I also knew I had access to tools and materials that could be helpful to the renovation efforts.

My involvement started small, helping plant some trees and spread some wood chips to control some erosion, but then continued to grow. Many projects (new holes, stairs, bridges, tee pads, etc.) were completed along the way and I lost count of how many hours of time were consumed. In the end (I say end but there are still a few projects left to complete this Spring) I made some great friends and learned that I like working on the disc golf course almost as much as I like playing disc golf. This was also when I saw how critical it was to find creative ways to raise funds. If I hadn’t volunteered to help with the Washington Park renovations, I don’t think Hyzer Ground would have happened.

I hope you get the chance to get out to Washington Park and play a round. It is a fun course that is enjoyable for all ages and skill levels.
